On the afternoon of June 25, 2004, State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met with Mr. Joseph, Chief of Beijing Branch of Press Trust of India. When asked China's comments on Indian Prime Minister Singh's proposal of strengthening India-China relations, Tang Jiaxuan expressed appreciation for the positive gesture of enhancing relations with China shown recently by the new Indian government. He reiterated that it is the sincere hope and set policy of China to constantly develop relations with India on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence. China and India should make joint efforts to keep and push forward the good momentum of development of their relations, expand and deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields and strengthen coordination in international affairs so as to promote the continuous development of their long-term constructive cooperative partnership.
